UTILITY BILLING AND OTHER FEES STATEMENT
The City recognizes that the first step to prevention of the COVID-19 virus involves regular and frequent handwashing. Appropriately, the City will temporarily suspend water shut-offs due to non-payment of your current utility bill to allow for water service to remain active for all customers. The cost of water consumed during this time will remain the utility customer’s responsibility (in other words, you will continue to be billed for all water consumption).
In addition to the suspension of water shut-offs, late fees that would have been assessed on all unpaid utility account balances on Monday, March 23rd, will be waived. However, we want to encourage all utility customers to keep current on utility bill payments. While City Hall is closed to the public, you can pay your utility bill in several different ways: place an envelope containing your remittance stub and payment in the drop box located next to the front door of City Hall at 107 W Main Street (no change will be given for cash payments; overpayment will result in a credit on your utility account), pay with a credit card over the phone by calling City Hall at (816) 532-3897, or pay online at https://www.municipalonlinepayments.com/smithvillemo?id=20727&catid=26. Any unpaid utility account balance as of the close of business on March 31st will be shown as a past-due amount on your next utility billing statement.
For payments relating to business licenses, building permits, dog tags, police reports, etc., or for questions regarding starting or stopping water service during this closure, please call City Hall at (816) 532-3897.
As the closure of City Hall is an attempt to mitigate the risk of exposure and to ensure the health of our community, applications for peddlers permits and rental requests for City facilities (Senior Center, parks, athletic fields) will continue to be accepted but will not be reviewed or approved until further notice.
Thank you for your patience throughout this closure.
