Projects Information

Capital Projects Authorized by 2018 Bond Issuance

 

In April 2018, citizens of Smithville approved the following ballot measure:

 

 “Shall the City of Smithville, Missouri issue its general obligation bonds in the amount not to exceed $5,625,000 for the purpose of acquiring rights of way, and constructing, extending and improving the streets, roads and sidewalks within the city including and without limitation to (a) constructing, extending and improving the South Commercial Avenue sidewalks and the 180th Street sidewalks, (b) constructing, extending and improving Main Street streetscape, (c) constructing, replacing and improving the Amory Road Bridge and the Second Creek Road Bridge, and (d) constructing, extending and improving pedestrian and bicycle sidewalk and trail connections along 180th Street right-of-way corridor and along the Main Street/Highway DD right-of-way corridor.”

Project Descriptions

Amory Road Bridge

Ballot issue (c): constructing, replacing and improving the Amory Road Bridge and the Second Creek Road Bridge.

 

The project includes demolition of the Amory Road bridge and pavement, cast-in-place concrete box culvert w/ inlet & outlet wing walls; concrete rail and metal handrail; metal beam guardrail system; asphalt pavement; streambank riprap; 61 linear feet storm pipe; Water main relocation; and all associated appurtenances.

Downtown Streetscape

Ballot issue (b): constructing, extending and improving Main Street streetscape.

The Project consists of construction of the following on Main Street between Highway 169 and Commercial Avenue and Bridge Street: Construction of approximately 7,400 square yards of asphalt street replacement, 4,300 linear feet of concrete curb and gutter, 21,700 square feet of concrete sidewalk, 12,200 square feet of brick sidewalk, 1,800 linear of 15-inch through 36-inch storm sewer, 35 storm structures, 57 street lights with base, traffic signs, and all associated appurtenances.

Second Creek Road Bridge

Ballot issue (c): constructing, replacing and improving the Amory Road Bridge and the Second Creek Road Bridge.

 

The Second Creek Road Bridge project includes construction of a new Single Span 125 foot Prestressed Concrete NU-Girder Span Bridge that has a 30 foot 9 inch width, full depth concrete bridge deck with Type B concrete barrier.

180th Street Trail & Sidewalks

Ballot issue (a): constructing, extending and improving the South Commercial Avenue sidewalks and the 180th Street sidewalks.

 

This Project includes approximately 2,500 square yards of concrete trail and sidewalk, 240 linear feet of 12 inch through 18 inch storm sewer, 4 storm structures, site restoration, and all associated appurtenances.

Main Street Trail

Ballot issue (d): constructing, extending and improving pedestrian and bicycle sidewalk and trail connections along 180th Street right-of-way corridor and along the Main Street right-of-way corridor.

 

The Main Street Trail will be an 8 foot wide multi-use trail on Main Street (previously named Route DD) from Liberty Road to Litton Way to facilitate pedestrian and bicyclists from Downtown Smithville to Smith’s Fork Park (Smithville Lake).

 

Note: this project is currently under design and may experience changes.

 

Estimated Completion: Fall 2019/Spring 2020

 

South Commercial Sidewalks

Ballot issue (a): constructing, extending and improving the South Commercial Avenue sidewalks and the 180th Street sidewalks.

 

This project will build a 5 foot wide sidewalk on Commercial Street south from Highway 92 to Shamrock Way and southeast to connect to the existing subdivision sidewalks to safely facilitate pedestrians and bicyclists on Commercial Street.

 

Note: this project is currently in design and may experience changes.
